Default Belt sander - belts wandering?

I've just bought a Makita Belt Sander after years of borrowing other peoples. But when I got it home and plugged it in the belt keeps wandering off the rollers, moves about halfway across the width and then settles. Should I have tuned it somehow? Is there some trick I'm missing?
    Cheers, Richard

Tune the adjustment knob until belt sits where is should, see instruction booklet.

Needs to be done everytime you put a belt on.

    Thanks I'll try that.

According to this page: http://www.makita.com.au/product.asp?ContentID=9910sp it does it automatically! unless I've got an old model...

Have you tried adjusting the tracking knob? It's normally on the front of the machine just next to the front drum
