Lorantz guitar speakers - wow
just put one of their 12" in the blues junior
sounds fabulous
spose to be a greenback clone but i never heard a greenback sound like this
it makes the vintage 30 that was in it sound dull and lifeless
best of all they are made in dandenong in the old plessey rola plant that made all our alnico speakers in the 60ls and 70's - mike, the original head engineer has got the factory and they still got all the cone moulds, paper recipes and all the machinery
i love it when i can buy stuff local maderay c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

The old Plessey 12" woofers were inside most quad boxes I used back in the 70's in NZ. They were a great speaker.

Wow - I didn't even know they still existed. I looked them up a couple of years back and found no info anywhere.
My PA still uses their 12" drivers in top boxes and monitors and my 4x12" quad is also still going strong. I also built a 4x10" quad for our old bass player but have not seen him in years to say how it is going. Perhaps that speaks for itself!
Great speakers, even given the production times (I believe they can only do a certain run at a time) but then again I think 1997 was the last time I ordered their speakers.
If you have their contact details I would to get them.

Mike of Lorantz
Would that Mike of Lorantz be Mike Barabasz? If so I bought about a dozen Plessey 12" drivers from him about 30 years ago. Still have two of them in Rossiter folded bass horn enclosures. Exceedingly efficient but unfortunately too large for a modern lounge room without any corners(meaning I haven't made enough compromises!)
They could be available if anyone in Brisbane is interested. Drop me an email.

Old_picker,
I've heard great things about these speakers!!!.
How do they compare in price to a greenback or vintage30?
Not that long ago I was thinking about puttin' two Lorantz in a Deville.
