Question aluminium windows external timber architrave

Hello, I'm a just joined member who has been reading the various posts on this great site for a while and figure someone here may be able to help......

I have very ordinary aluminium windows with okay looking internal timber reveal and architrave but hideous external aluminium architraves - its obviously not the best option but is it possible to remove the aluminium architrave and replace with timber in a way where the end result won't look as terrible as it sounds like it will?!

If you can take a photo of one of them it will help.

I would be inclined to try and manufacture something that would go over the existing exterior, rather than trying to remove it, as it may be a part of the waterproofing of the window.
