Oy veh! Ya like to jump in with both hands and feet don't ya Toni?
The term "ornamental lathe" covers a lot of territory. Tonnes of add-ons like sine-wave generators and such. And true "ornamental lathes" haven't been regularly manufactured since around 1948, I think.
To just get your feet wet, you might be better off building a more rudimentary Rose Engine. Does pretty much the same as the Nova contraption. Geoff O'Laughlin of Peninsula Woodturners has a nifty setup called "Poor Man's Rose Engine" that might suit your purposes. Browse this forum (WT-OT) for some links.
Best of luck.

HI Joe,
I have seen that many time of Geoff but I do not have the wood work ability to even make it if I wanted. That is why I have to see if I can somehow buy one because I just do not have a chance in hell. THat is why I was looking at buying the NOVA but they won't send to Australia. After waiting for months getting very excited Nova then decided we were not part. So now this is trying the next thing. If there is a will there has got to be a way. LIke i even considering bringing the nova over by getting a freind to purchase it and post it to me. THe freight was like $500 that way. Kind of way out the question at the moment. This would gave me no warranty but I have heard 3 people get there with problems so it just to risky at the moment. One even had a cracked base. So I must keep digging and waiting.

thanks Wheelin been in touch with JIm the whole way through this process to no avail. He selling parts only at this stage because Nova did not send the new one to us because poor old Jim been doing everything to acheive me getting this to no avail. Not from lack of trying his part. He got the good job of telling me no joy to Australia.

PS. My dad was teasing that it had to go to his place until my birthday next week. I told him no way. He said why not he could run it in for me. LOL I said dad at 300kg she will go to her possy and stay there. I heard some very colourful words on the other end. He then reckons she is no toy is she..I laughed at him. He has no idea at what I even bought. He so funny. I chuckle every time I htink of his reaction. LOL
