Hollowing Tool
Happy New Year everyone... I just discovered an amazing (to me) thing, which is probably not original or new and which almost certainly breaks a woodturning rule or two. But it did feel safe or I wouldn't be posting it. I decided to pass it on for those of us who, like me, are starting out and may not have every tool they would like, like a hollowing tool. I was cleaning up the inside edge of a lidded box I'm making with a parting tool. Unfortunately my perception of straight isn't the best sometimes and when I'd finished I realised I had cut into the box at an angle, smaller on the outside, larger inside. Now I had been having trouble hollowing the box using my small bowl gouge; the box opening was too small to bring the tool around far enough. Paused for a second before realising that if I turned the Parting Tool inside the cut, using the very corner of the tool to hollow the box I could open it up much better than I had. I know this description is probably as clear as mud so here's a pic. Hope this helps someone else finish something they've been wanting to do...
P.S. If anyone knows this to be a huge booboo please correct me. Ta.
Stupid batteries! Camera dead, will post pic this arvo. bye.
