Two Storer Interviews at furledsails.com - podcasts boat design lug rigs
I have mentioned this mob before.
Furled Sails - They call themselves the "World's First Sailing Podcast" based in North America.
Anyway, last week Christy and Noel called me up chatted to me for a couple of hours.
So they will have an interview with me up on their site in the next week or so followed by a part 2 next week
They also asked a lot of questions about lug rigs which will go in a separate program - along with interviews with other people on the same subject.
I was frightfully nervous - I am much happier typing than I am talking.
Best wishes
MIK

What's with the fake pirate accent Mik?
Seriously, I'm just downloading it now - guess what I'll be listening too on my way to uni today

It is up already on the first page of furled sails.
The permanent link looks like being here

So Topics in the first podcast
- Why Australian and NZ boat design is different - how and why we build boats lighter than in the Northern Hemisphere.
- The Goat Island Skiff - why not multichine - why a single sail - how come it is so light.
- PDRacer - why a silly looking square looking boat is bucking the trend and introducing new people to sailing while more sporty looking boats are forcing sailing clubs to close their doors.
- How I started design and narrowly avoided designing air conditioning ducts in Bulk Ore Carriers and why I think Iain Oughtred is so good.
- The Mundoo Nomad Solar boat and the freedoms and limitations of solar powered craft.
- Why performance is the biggest safety factor.
- Why having fun and making people happy is better than being the "best yacht designer in the world"
And much, much more.

Have listened to the first third. You have nothing to worry about - the interview is going very well and you don't sound anything like a pirate...
Cheers

At 22km, I am NOT going to walk and I have to pick the lass up so not on the bike - not that I listen while riding, all my huffing and puffing drowns out the ipod
I listen to a lot of audio books (there's always one running in the car) and this was as good a listen as any of them. Well done mate. Can't wait for next week.
The fun part was listening to you being polite - you nearly choked when they asked you to praise dories

Wait till you hear me dimplomatic about a particular expensive form of the lug rig next week that someone developed ... mostly so it was patentable. A crazy mix of blocks and control lines. All things the standard lug does with $20 of rope.
Ah well - another idea that will sink without trace.

Good one Mik. Are we allowed to ask you about strange lug sail systems that keep everything away from them mast?
