    Default Decorative screws

Does anybody know where you can buy decorative screws in Melbourne.

I have some old bronze plated fittings that I want to add to cupboards, doors, furniture etc around the house and I want to use appropriate screws (the previous owners used zinc plated countersunk particleboard screws)

Preferably I'd like round head (and I mean real round head not panhead), slotted (not phillips or pozi), bronze plated (or any dark brown finish) around the 5-6 gauge in lengths from about 1/2in to 1in

I have tried the big chains and some specialised stores but round head screws seem to be a thing of the past or only shipped with the fittings themselves.

    Any ideas

    Thanks

Why would you want slotted screws? they are the worst!
Don't you like the square drive ones? they are unusual and you can buy them in bronze.

Have you tried Chalmers Hardware in Burwood Road Hawthorn?

How many were you looking for?

Thanks wood borer, but no luck there

i used to live in auburn road so i knew about them. They are True Value hardware store now and only seem to stock the standard range of zenith screws

I have a plan though, my mother is visiting from england in april so i'll get her to bring me some out. round head slotted screws in a black japanned finish are still in common supply there and will do the trick

I have recently been given a range of brass screws including roundheads so if you only need half a dozen or so, I would be happy to give them to you.

Like you, I have discovered the difficulty of finding slotted brass screws and so I put the word out. The response amongst my non woodwork mates was fantastic and now I have well over a thousand slotted brass screws still in their boxes. Makes you wonder what would have happened to them otherwise.

thanks for the offer wood borer, but i really need a dark finish as the fittings are in antique bronze

I'm going to order some from england on the internet and get them delivered to my mum's house so she can bring them over in april

I'll probably be getting them from:

Try a marine supply outlet, brass and bronze are still used a lot in boats, not only stainless steel.
