    Default What wood is this?

An American chap from the international PDRacer forum has a sample of wood that is reputed to be OZ.

It was sold to him as "Australian Lacewood". Is this fishtail oak? I don't know my woods well enough.

    Thankyou
    Michael

Looks like Silky Oak (Grevillea Robusta) to me.

    Yep, Silky Oak (Grevillea Robusta).

It's often called lacewood in the US.

Either southern silky oak (Grevillea robusta) or Northern Silky Oak (Cardwellia Sublimis) My bet is on the northern as I don't think there's that much southern milled commercially and I do know of at least one mill up here cutting from private forestry that exports all of their stuff. That said, there's a south american timber which looks identical and is even imported into Australia as it's more readily available.
