Unfortunately the more you mix the shorter the pot time. I'd recommend the following from West System:
209 Extra Slow Hardener
Which has a 40-50min pot life at 22degC. Note that this reduces to 15-20min at 35degC.
There are other systems which I can't remember off the top of my head. I'll try to track them down. You can always call a place like 'fgi' who can probably recommend something. I assume you want true epoxy and not polyester?
Some safety considerations are in order too - epoxy mixed in even small quantities can easily over heat causing burns or a fire. This is paticularly the case when you use a cup or deep mixing container. Try to keep your mixes as small as possible and use a wider mixing container if possible (shallow resin). Keep a bucket of water handy to dump the container in after you have used it.

Nothing to do with thinning but if anyone's interested in the comment "Stradivarius used amber" see here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/saturday_r...381986,00.html

Can you still get AdEze Quickseal?
It comes with its own thinners in a seperate tine & you can mix it up 50:50 & it will soak in to stablize timber.
Once it is set, even punky timber can be worked normaly.
It just stinks.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Ok, In my experience with useing epoxy resins the only way to thin it without destroying the stuff is to thin the resin with no more than 5% Isopropal Alcohol(rubbing alcohol). You can get the stuff from the chemist. This will make your mix very runny and the alcohol will eveporate very quickly once applied leaving a very smooth coating of epoxy behind to go hard. So once applied leave it.
