At that price a collector can have it and good luck to them.

That's about what they go for. $2,100 is what I've seen them for in the flesh. The Stanely no. 1 is on my hope-to-find-at-a-steal-and-sell-off-for-a-tidy-profit list. I can only dream of my chances

Yep, they are on my drool list but also on my cannot afford list.
I have managed to stifle the cravings by going ang buying one of the Lie-Nielsen No 1's. Brand new, made from bronze, it will have to do until the real thing comes along...

I saw one go at an auction once for $2300, not including buyer's commission. Silly bugger prices...

I can just see the bloke in his airconditioned carpeted workshop with the butler bringing the tools to him on a silver salver. "Pass me the Stanley No 1 Jeeves"
There must be a market out there now for plastic replicas to go in display cabinets. It would leave the real thing to those who use them.

Not that keen . I would have to have three fingers amputated so my paw would fit inside the rear tote, so I could use it .

I think the seller is also, especially as it looks more like a "user" than a "collector" AND there's no box
Patrick Leach (of Blood and Gore fame) circulates a monthly "for sale" tool list. In February this year he had a Stanley #1 which he described as:
a type 11 model with the V-logo stamped in the iron, this as-found example has all original parts and was never cleaned or altered; with the tip of the tote missing, this ones a bargain over what a mint one fetches these days; a quick cleaning will have it looking much nicer than it is now, it looks to have 90% japanning under the grungehis asking price was USD$935
of course if bronze doesn't appeal, Patrick web site suggests he still has a few "NEW" iron bedrock #1s for sale at $595 (including a wooden box)
