Most makita items are very good if they have one for that money
it would be far better than a GMC or Ozito or Ryobi etc

Keep plugging along with Epay. I got a Hitachi for a few hundred$. 6months old, still original blade. It cuts 90 *, not 89.6 or 90.2.
If you can't find one, pay the extra $$. Its well worth it.Bodgy

Just my two bobs worth
I've got a shed full of high quality tools and machinery and am a bit of a tool brand snob. A couple of years ago I needed a new drop saw and as I was a bit short of cash at the time I bought a GMC 250mm slide compound saw with the idea that I would replace it with a better one later. (approx$300)
I am rapped in it and don't intend to replace it any time soon. I use it for cutting framing timber and also doing fix outs etc. I threw out the crap blade that came with it and bought a good quality fine tooth blade, this made all the difference. I'm not a pro so its not used every day but it is used regularly, and I am very happy with it, ( you can buy three of these for the price of a similar Makita.) The slide compound will come in handy like you don't believe and will be much more useful than a straight drop saw.

I know you now want a slide compound saw but I thought I'd throw in that I bought the Green Makita 254mm drop saw at Bunnings for $150 and I'm wrapped with its performance. If Makita make a green sliding mitre saw I would check it out.
Cheers,

I reviewed the older model GMC LSMS250 (not the 250A model) but they may share some similarities...

Hope it helps. How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?
