mortise jig simple version
I have seen the superb mortise jig of our member "Rocker" and for high end furniture making I don't think you could do better.
However for a garden furniture hobbyist like myself I am attaching pictures of a jig together with a piece of half inch steel rod machined to find the centre line of a mortise, which has been gauged on the workpiece .

when using this jig above it runs better if the direction of the router is facing the correct way.
When looking at my router picture above go to a position behind the machine and push forward. The router hangs against the fence and does not try to wander.woody U.K.
