Machine Shaft speeds
I am rebuilding an old Saw Bench and a Planer and require Shaft RPM to suit given sizes of Saws and Planer head so to work out pulley sizes for given Driver Motor RPM
Saw size : 300 to350mm D. varying Gullet type teeth per Inch.
Require Driven Shaft RPM ??
Planer Head: 100mm Diameter 3 Blade cutters??
Require Driven Shaft RPM ??
Once given the RPM for each I can work out the pulley sizes for given Driver RPM and Shaft Pulleys. Ta , AQUADOMO

For the saw, check blade max speeds (RPM) and target about 80% to allow some safety factor. This should get you into the ballpark for the blades you intend to run.
For the planer, my 6 inch has a 65mm diameter cutter head and runs about 4000RPM for HSS blades. For Tungsten, you may be able to go up some, as heat buildup is less likely to draw the temper on the cutter edges. Rescale to maintain tip speed with your head diameter.

Bobmarg,
I am fairly sure that the circumference of a saw blade should be doing 8000 to 10000 feet per minute..... my apprenticeship studies were in the 1950s and memory could be playing tricks on me!!
