    You mean apart from the price?

    I'm not 100% sure, but does the handle looks like a 12, while the etch clearly says 7.. I thought the medallion might be a ringer, but I think it's just been cleaned.

    I think Ray is on the money .

    No.7s don't have wheat carved handles, and without checking, the medallion looks more like one of Disston's more modern styles with the "soft" rim and minimal punctuation etc.

    I suspect there may be a multitude of holes in the plate under the handle. If it was truly an original panel saw there would probably have been only three saw nuts including the medallion so it may have been cut down to boot.

    That's not a problem providing there is no intent to deceive. It would of course significantly detract from the price as far as a collector is concerned.

    Yes - I just meant the etch vs the handle.

    Check out the highly sloped gullets - sharpened very well it seems - on this saw ...
