What do you hate about your 3 point steady?
Hi All,
I have been looking with interest at a number of 3 points steadies that have been built by members and like what I see. Great combination of salvage and initiative to get the job done with minimal effort.
I need to build one after promising LOML to build a pair of barstools. The legs are 40x40 and 900 long (v high bench/servery) and pine. The only thing realy going for it is that it was available. It whips and chatters and I spend most of the time in the center supporting/damping with my top hand which works but is not as fun and much slower. 3 legs of 8 sanded and am doing no more without the rest.
I wanted two things
- 3 point steady that is fast and easy to operate, solid and cheap.(idealy self-centering)
- a method to place the steady on the work without having to round it so you can rough down with heavy cuts and the work is already supported as you work along.
I have solutions for both problems but I invite any other comments or gripes before I make up a couple.
If the end result is popular I might try and offer it as a pre-cut kit.
Cheers.Cheers,
Shannon.
