    Default Footprint brand carving tools

Has anyone heard of or used this brand of carving chisels before? They are small and have beech handles with "Footprint" and "Eng" with picture of a footprint in between printed on the handles.

I picked up a 6 in a box lot at an auction and was wondering if they were any good to start off on. They look a bit crudely made and are very light so I don't know if I need to invest in something a bit more robust to learn on.

    Any advice would be good.

    Matto.

Footprint is a good old English company which probably was on the lower priced end of the market but I have a Footprint No5 plane that is one of my favorites. They, as far as I know are still a privately owned family company still doing things the old way.

Footprint are pretty good. This is what they say about themselves

Footprint Tools Ltd is one of the UK’s few remaining genuine Hand Tool Manufacturers. Established in 1875 by our founder Thomas R Ellin, we continue to offer quality Sheffield made tools at affordable prices. Whilst many companies have switched manufacture from the UK to the Far East in recent years, we pride ourselves on our 130 year history of manufacturing in Sheffield.

Welcome aboard, not many carvers in Adelaide.

As regards the tools, what the others said.
