The best way to make a horse is to start with a mare & stallion.

Making carriage wheels is much more difficult, wheelwrighting is a skill that takes a while to acquire. If you are after a real wheel that has to work on a real carriage, then I suggest you try to find someone who knows how to do it, but there are precious few souls who do, any more. There are books on the subject - let Google be your friend...

    Cheers,

A few years ago there was, maybe still is, a wheelwright on Bribie Island. I had some good contacts in the heavy horse industry but unfortunately age has caught up with them and they have been called to another place in the last few years.

    I recommend this book: Wheelwrighting: a Modern Introduction - B & J Morrison.

Good for beginners and experts alike - not that I have a copy but I've a mate who has and I've read it from cover to cover several times.

Unfortunately, being American most of it's references to suppliers, training etc. are also US oriented. But we have our counterparts to most things over here and the "how to" section is universal.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Default jarrah

Jarrah is great for naves/ hubs as it is tough and doesnt split easy, not too sure how good it is for spokes or felloes, the spokes want to be out of a strong timber (oak in the uk) with a very straight grain, felloes are better made out of a springy timber (ash in the uk).
As I am no expert on foriegn timbers im sorry I cant be much help, but if there is anything else I can help with, do get in touch!
