I am planning to build my wife a nice big entertainment unit and i dont want to use metal draw slides but she wants it to open easy and not have the draws get stuck as there will be quite a bit of weight in them from all the dvds and cds in them can i still use wooden draw slides

Hi Wombat
You should not have any difficulties with traditional drawer designs as CDs and DVDs are not really very heavy.
However, have you considered using metal undermount drawer slides. The metal slides go under the drawer rather than on the sides; they are quite invisible in operation, unless you lay on the floor and look up. The advantage is that with full extension ones the drawer opens about 110% so that you have easy access to the entire drawer. This increases the effective or usable storage space significantly. (say by about a third.) And those modern easy-motion or soft-close drawer slides are much nicer to use than any traditional design, IMHO.
Have a look at http://www.blum.com/pdf/katalog/ka08...080-KP-000.pdf
Cheers
Graeme
