F17 KDHW vs dressed tas oak
Hi,
Is F17 KDHW (from Mitre 10 etc) just an undressed version of the dressed tas oak they sell inside the store?
The reason I ask is I'd like to make a simple bed for my son and the F17 seems perfect for at least the main horizontal members - structural, well priced and hopefully with a clear finish would match some other furniture bought from tas oak we have.
What do you guys think ?
Many thanks.

Sam F17 could come from a host of different timbers, no real guarantee what species it is, although having said that, with 'Tassie Oak' there is no guarantee either - TO is a marketing name used to sell a few different species of timber.
At least being KD (kiln dried) it should be stable to make a furniture project from. ALthough not so sure it would be rough sawn and KD, normally if they go to the trouble of KD a stick of timber it would also be DAR???I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Thanks for your reply Sigidi. I had a close look today at the timber whilst I was picking something else up and it's definitly not rough sawn. I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Sam, if it's the same colour as what you need and comes out cheaper or the same price then go for it?
One thing with F17 versus appearance grade TO, have a look through the bits, make sure you stay away from any with knots. The apperance grade TO will have very few if any knots and knots will give you hassle in your furniture.
Maybe you are wanting it for the main horizontal frame bits? then sure go for F17, will be more than adequate.
Good luck and post us some pics when you finish
Sam on the other side of things, if it's just for the slats, you can use rough sawn timber and plane it up yourself, doesn't need to be KD or DARI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
