Default Timber Strip / Marine Ply

    Hi,

Could someone tell me where I could source a strip of timber to run along the centre of my boats deck, maybe ash or similar. I suppose about 4 x 4 x 1500 mm. What companies could do this for me in the Melbourne area?? Any ideas??

I am also after a couple of small scrap pieces of 4mm gabboon marine plywood, just 2 pieces about 10mm x 400mm.

    Thanks for the help

    Damien

    Damien,
Bunnings or a local timber yard sell small molding sections in lengths that will suit. Do you really mean 4mm X 4mm section? That seems very thin square section. You may have to get that ripped off a bigger flitch by a timber yard that has a circular saw, depending on exactly where you are located. (Or any handyperson with a Triton or something) I guess I'm saying that you don't need a boatbuilder for that.

Just a thought, perhaps you'd do better to get a wider piece with rebates either side to accept the decking, picture an inverted "T", or is this to cover a joint?

As for supply, Hearns Hobbies in Flinders Street stock a decent range of timbers for model boat building which might suit your needs, or you could try Australian Furniture Timbers in Plummer St Port Melbourne 9646 1081
