Default Help Needed Rotel cd player

    Hi Guys
My rotel cd has stopped working. When I load a disk it spins it for about a second then stops and sends an error code to the display panel. It did this for a while so I unplugged it and used another, but decided to give it another go and it worked perfectly for another week. Now its given up again.
I pulled the cover off and cleaned the laser to no avail. Nothing seems obviously destroyed to my untrained eye, however the laser mechanism is sort of floating in the breeze, it isn't at either end of its travel just floating in the middle. I think when the machine powers up it moves to one end, might be electromagnetic. But what would I know?
    Any ideas?
Any idea where to have it looked at?
    Cheers
    Jim

Anything Rotel would be worth getting looked at by a pro, maybe ask a few specialist hifi shops to see who they use.

This may be unrelated but recently 1 of my amps would switch off as soon as it was turned on. We've had very humid weather later and i suspected this may be causing the problem so kept persisting with the on/off business. It started staying on about a 1/4 second longer each time till it eventually worked. If you've had similar weather lately, try just leaving it switch on for a while and the heat inside will evaporate any moisture build up. That reminds me, I had a similar problem with a Marantz DVD player years ago that didn't get much use and the above remedy worked. Good luck, hope it's a cheap fix.

Rotel were imported by International Dynamics in Melbourne. This was the wholesale arm of Encel Electronics who have been advertising recently, so must still be out there. That should give you a couple of places to google, though there aren't particularly close to home.

Realy there is nothing special about Rotel, just typical mid range product.

Most likley is the laser is on the way out. If it is one of the older machines,a good audio tech who knows his CD players might tweek the alignment & get it to run a little longer.

Most likley it will be one of the off the shelf laser modules, most CD players use one of several brands of laser, you can problay get a replacement laser.

If it is a more modern design there is no alignment adjustments. you just replace the laser.....serioulsy any body with a bit of care and fingers smaller than bananas can do it.

    cheers

It's likely to be a laser. Which model Rotel? Some were good and some were great. It may be worth doing something with, given that it is now difficult to buy a decent CD player at a reasonable price.

Could be the laser, but could also be the belt that drives the CD drawer, I had a similar problem with my NAD - turned out the belt was stretched and although the drawer closes OK, it would not send the right signal to the control electronics and the machine would think there is no CD in the tray.
Changing the belt (50 cents worth) fixed it for me.
    Good luck.
