32' foot spotted gum carvel timber hull
G'day all,
My name is Dave and I am from Melbourne Australia. I have just purchased a 32" Halverson style timber boat called Rajah, she was built in the late 1930s in Pittwater as a Gentlemans Launch. I have a dream to restore to it's original condition and I am looking for as much information on restoring a boat like this as possible. The project consists of rebuilding the cabin and interior. The interior has been stripped out and the cabin needs to be removed as wood rot has gotten into the cabin sides only. The hull and deck is in very good condition for her age. She has no broken ribs or frames. I need to find a temporary mooring in Pittwater NSW before relocating her to Melbourne to begin restoration. I am also looking for information on moorings in Melbourne.
Cheers,
Dave

Can't help much with the Sydney part but may be able to help out with the Melbourne part depending on where in Melb. you are. If you are close to Docklands google ''the wooden boat centre''.

Hi,
If you don't have it already, there is a great book on Halversons. I think it's called "Workboats and Dreamboats" and/or "The Haverson Story".
Try maritime bookshops (Boat Books in St Kilda should have it, www.boatbooks-aust.com.au) or a web search. I don't have it but from memory it covers the company's development and all their models so should have pics and details to help you.
If you get up to Sydney to pick it up, I think they still have an operation (or at least 2nd hand sales) in Middle Harbour - nearly bought a 32 footer myself a few years back but just couldn't convince the in-laws to go halves Oil lamps, original interior, etc. May still bemoored at middle Harbour if buyer left it there.
Good luck with it and don't forget to post photos.
Regards,
Darren
