yes closer to an oiled look than most others I would say, but provides better UV protection because it stays on the surface rather than soaking right in like oil. Inscrutable enough answer?
There used to be a guy on here who started a business renovating decks using Spa n deck. Perhaps he still posts over at the renovations forum. He would have lots of photos. come to think of it, search this site and you might find photos.

Hey guys, I mixed up some napisan and hot water and used it on about 1/3rd of my deck to test it out. Gee it really lifted a lot of that grey weathered crappy stuff.

Looks like I will have to do another wash with it though.

update:

Bought some Spa-n-deck. The bloke at bunnies actually seemed to know what he was talking about, even opened up a couple tins of this stuff, got out a new brush and paintedit on a bit of timber he had to show me the colours.

Anyway I ended up choosing "redwood". My timber is spotted gum.

How is the difference, have a look at the pics.

I think that I may have the wrong colour that I was after, but my main issue was not having to re oil all the time. This will in the long run save my back as I wound have to regularly oil and scrub the deck as much.

You can clearly see the difference in before and after.

I actually did two washed with "napisan", then washed with "dish washing liquid" and pressure blasted it off.

It is amazing how much that napisan works. A few weeks ago I tried with just the karcher and it was working but very, very slow.

Drop this stuff on and scrub a bit and leave to set for 15min and it is much much easier to blast off. The layer of scum and crap coming off would have been 0.5mm thick.

Then washed with a deck clean that hast eh oxacilic (spelling) acid in it.

Did 3 coats and that is what it is.

For the back deck I might try "jarrah", this was too red I think. But at least there hase been a good clean and now the deck is protected for quite a while.

P.s. no need to worry about removing those dome head nails, as sanding is not needed after this cleaning technique at all.

Hi if you get any advice I would love to be in on it.
We have an uncovered spotted gum deck and its only 2 years old and live in melbourne.
No water or oil based oils keep it protected for long enough, weeks after the last oiling it looked weathered and terrible as it has always since we first oiled it 2 years ago.
Now going to try an Oil Varnish combination to see how long we have it for.
Cabots and Wattle make one so wish us luck.
We have washed and deck cleaned it to remove the grey from the wood thats how bad it is.
