Hi all,

this item is not exactly a joke, but as a bet i managed to win a case of beer on it once. The beer donators didn't believe me when i told them that square hole drills do exist. I showed them pictures of the thing and they had to deliver.

In fact it's not a pure drill, it's a combination of a drill getting rid of most of the material in an ordinary round fashion, and 4 surrounding chisels in a square layout to finish off the hole in one go. So it was in fact a slight bit of a fraud, which they bought nonetheless.

Recently, though, some techniques have been developed to really make square holes without those chisels. It is halfway drilling and halfway routing and the key lies in some clever mathematics and templates and cutting shapes. You can google some pretty amazing varieties on the theme, including this one:

You might want to try the beer bet thing as well on this!

Lots of success and fun
