    Default Soap on a rope

    One other method of weathering that you could consider is the soap on a rope method. Tie a rope to the piece and place it at mid tide level and let the ocean, sand, shell grit and rock go to work, at low tide the sun takes over.

    the only problem are the wandering beach folk claiming salvage rights

    yeah you've probably got more of a problem with that happening where you live. As Victoria goes into winter there's less beach traffic, I've got a good anchor point pegged out but will wait until after Easter or so to cast out. Maybe there's some out of the way concealed spot you could think of? A private jetty maybe, you know, "hey mate, would you mind if I tied my artwork up to your jetty for a while"
