welding old saw bench with electric motor attached ..

OK ... I'm a pen pusher by trade so excuse what might appear to be a dumb question to any tradies reading this. I have an old 'Dyco' saw bench from NZ. Built like a brick out-house. One of the mild steel supporting bars on the stand has fallen off and I was going to weld it back on. My question: Is it OK to weld this into position with the electric motor still attached to the saw? Any dramas with the current going through the saw motor? (which I'm assuming it will do). Thanks in advance. Ged

shouldn't be any problems but unplug the saw

so long as u dont have the current running threw the motor (conect the earth to the power lead) it should be fine.
