Today Ian from Lucas came and fixed our 825. After replacing half the mill, fiddling with the adjustments, shoving the gearbox around, fiddling with the adjustments again and insulting the sharpening disc, I now have a decent mill to use

Good for Ian, amazing what the mill can do if it's maintained/looked after - kept trying to tell folkes, I love my Lucas!!

Maybe this should be something your boss should take into consideration. I always remember a Snap-On tools sticker my Dad used to have said something like "I make my living with Snap-On tools, don't as to borrow them" adjust it a bit and you get what I like to use " I make my living from a Lucas Mill, don't expect me to mistreat it"

Ya can't leave us hanging like that - what things did Ian do? Gotta fill us in on what the trade secret stuff was he did?

The mill works like a charm. The main problem was that the gearbox had been moved outta whack, after some persuasion with the crowbar everything started behaving like it should. A new sliding block thing and new rollers and now I can move the powerhead across the trolley much easier than before.

Pretty much, he fixed the thing.

You're lucky that they could come and help out and getting you milling again. I've found I have to work problems out myself or by using this forum, not that there are too many major dramas with owning a lucas. They do require maintenance and re-tuning at times. There is some parts that are consumable (they wear out) like the rollers, blade bolts, belts etc. Probaly need to be technical minded but if you're not,what do you do, I can see a bussiness oppurtunitie for someone that knows Lucas Mills and likes to travel around the country fixing and tuning in or even setting one up new mills for people. cheers
