I got this from a boatbuilder's/engineer's deceased estate cleanup. It had aged very dark brown/black but has cleaned up like this:

It's medium heavy, and has only a faint radiata like odour. Looks and feels a bit like what they call Tasmanian Oak at Bunnings but is clearly different. The piece I have has been quarter sawn so I suppose was intended for furniture/boatbuilding? A bit of planing and sanding has left quite a glossy surface.

Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

Looks like a bit of common old kiln dried hardwood KDH (covers a multitude of hardwooods incl Tas Oak)

Probably Eucalyptus regnans (Mountain Ask) sold as Vic Ash if cut in Victoria or Tassi Oak like most Eucs sold in Tassi. Or there is a mill in Gippsland that would call it Gipsland Oak if they cut it. Alpine ash and a few others do look similar personally I need a sample to compare.

I'm making some art deco style bookends from it. It's very nice to plane and saw and smells very nice too. Finished pieces actually ring a little if you bump them together. I guess after twenty years in the shed it's well seasoned!
