Hello,

Last week I made a maple lidded box. Im a new woodturner, have one year experience, and this is my first real holowing project. My lathe is a second hans Emco DB-5, made in Austria.

The top of the box is a piece of yew. Finising is Autralian shellawax, good stuff:2tsup:.

Greetz from Holland,

Wilco

You have to be proud of that! It looks like you did a good job. :2tsup:

And yeah, the Shellawax is good stuff indeed.

Welcome to our asylum. :)

Hi Wilco,

Welcome to the forum!

I'm very much a newbie myself, but I like the form on that box. The yew gives a nice contrast as well.

And yes, you will find lots of support for shellawax around here :D It is top stuff :2tsup:

Cheers,
Dave

Hello Elizaleahy, What do you exactly mean with the woodturners challenge? Is this a kind of match? Could you explain a bit more?

Hello Elizaleahy, What do you exactly mean with the woodturners challenge? Is this a kind of match? Could you explain a bit more? Not really a match or competition. More like a "turn along" A number of us (both newbies and old hands ) are making lidded boxes and posting Work In Progress shots of what we are doing and how and why. Sort of like a knowledge sharing thing. And If we come across problems we can get suggestions from others. Which we can normally on this forum too, its just that I thought it would be good if we all worked on similar things. Gives me something to work towards too, instead of wandering up to the shed and saying "hmm! What now? "

Here is the thread about it. http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=101007

Thanks TL - I went to sleep. But it was your suggestion anyway, so you should be the one to do the explaining!
