Neat set up bit over the top but at least there is no wood wastage

Definitely over the top, but a nice doodad. I made a crude version of the same thing after seeing the Ringmaster tool at a wood show in about 1985. It worked well and I made a dozen or so bowls in that fashion. Mine used a wood 4x4 with saw cut slots at various angles in the top, and a home made parting tool that was a close fit in the slots.

Ray, very nice to see how this guy doing this.
But it looks to me much to complicated, you could do the same with a partingtool hand operated, don't you think.

I've seen a spiral cut on a tilted bandsaw table achieve a similar result. Cut and apply glue, then let it drop in the expanded mode, then re-turn finished bowl. No need for special expensive cutters, just need to get the angle right.

It's easy to pick a turner with a metal-working background, innit? :U
