That's great advice, Ken W. I've paid $50 a metre for 4x4 redgum (KD, but it's still splitting). And I have maybe metres of it.

And now you tell me that it's only good for firewood. Thanks for the late advice. :(

Redgum likes to move so a snug fit = future problems.

So don't try for a tight fit of the lid... but if it "rattles" slightly then you should be right. Besides, it makes it more usable when you can remove the lid with just one hand. :2tsup:
