Some times it goes pear shaped that was the sort of day I had.
Turning a piece of Camphor into a vase shape just as a have a play and see what happens sort of task. Not having a deep hollowing system for small necked items doesn't help but good tool control does.

I was doing fine cleaning the inside up to shape the bottom and sides when it happened :C:B.

Bummer

About to give up toss it in the bin I cleaned up the bit still in the chuck the base so a candle could be sat in it.

looked good but the top half still was bugging me :?

I sat and played look n see it was to become a suck it and see so I did.

Cut a joiner ring sleeve glued it into the base

stuck the top into the chuck and cleaned that up

some changing in chucking again and glue it back together let it dry while having lunch

Back to it removed a bit from the base and saw its grain matched all the way through  a lid :U it became

not quite finished more to happen yet back to it when I can.

Have an idea for covering the join and finishing the lid

This is a total frivolous venture

I would have given up on that Ray. You have done well to salvage it like that. Good work.:2tsup:

It may be a "a total frivolous venture" but I'm betting that you'll learn a lot out of it.

Some of my favourite pieces have been the results of similar playing around. :;

price of screwing up that turning blank - stumbling on the cat when your really , and giving it a swift kick
price of the swift kick - priceless !!:po:

frivolous can be fun - I've turned a block of wood down to nearly nothing, just because
would have been firewood at my place :o
