My brother in law is working on this project......on weekends he often brings one of the Yike bikes home and rides it up and down his street. Just about everybody is at their front gates wondering what the hell just went past.

In NSW at least, it is illegally overpowered - roughly 200 watt maximum for electric drive bikes or it must be registered as a motorcycle. I think there is a speed limit in some states too that is pretty low, well under 20kph.

Otherwise a neat way to spend $6000 or so.

The current model being developed in NZ is speed limited....40km/hr I think.

I foresee problems with legality of the machine in different countries and within different parts of the same country. At the moment a majority of pre-run orders have come from Europe.

The price is not cheap but alot of R and D has gone into the Yike Bike and it's a small scale operation at this stage. That said I know quite a few cyclists who happily spend $6000 plus on push bikes.
