Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and i'm a little stuck! I need your help - i'm looking for a router profile (it may be common - i'm new to the exciting world of routers, and don't know much about the bits & their names!). I'm looking to make the first pic below look like the second pic. Basically to router a rounded groove in the timer, for the stile on some plantation shutters i'm making.

Any help on the name of the router bit - or any other possibilities for me to make this groove - would be appreciated!

kind regards,
Rob

That profile is probably cut with a double reed bit – follow this link http://www.carbatec.com.au/double-bead-bit_c9570

please note that I wouldn't try to cut the profile on the edge of a door frame with any hand held router bigger than a trimmer

You could also try a bullnose bit, ideally in a router table:

Carb-i-tool is probably the biggest manufacturer of quality router bits. Have a look at their display in you local woodwork supplier or on their website.

As Ian suggests its a hard job to do well with a freehand router. My preference would be to use a router table.

Depending on size, I'd recommend, this (http://dzynzs.netne.net/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_29&products_id=417), this (http://dzynzs.netne.net/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_29&products_id=418) or this (http://dzynzs.netne.net/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_30&products_id=416). Saw & Bits (James) are good to deal with and you cannot beat the price.

It is liquidation stock so once gone they are gone, quality is quite good too!.
