I am going to make a segmented hardwood bowl. I am definately using forest redgum as one of the timbers but i need your advice on the other timber. I am looking for a darkish (darker than redgum) Australian hardwood that is relatively good to turn.
P.S. i have made a segmented bowl before. out of Radiatta pine though, looks good but not spectacular

Try beefwood (Grevillia parrallela or G. striata), there is an Acacia with the common name of something ebony (sorry for the vagueness as the site that I used as reference has just closed down). Real dark pieces of blackwood would also do as would some of the mahogany I have seen. Woody pear may be worth a go if you can get it in the right form.
