I got my cyclone assembled today for a noise assessment and had to put a longer cable on it to get rid of the 15A plug just for the test. When we opened the switch box we found the neutral connected to the earth tag and the earth on the switch neutral pole. Not a huge problem but definitely a no no. Maybe said Taiwanese worker was having a bad day??

Why am I not suprised.

And australian legeslation does not require us to test equipment before installing it into any situation......we can simply call it "NEW" and it is assumed that the manufacturer has done it all right.

OH the things I have seen.

extension cord with a neon in the socket.....neon between active and earth.
switches in the neutral line
fuses in the neutral line
double insulated labels on items with earthed metal cases.
metal cased items with no earth......double insulated.....um er
items that plainly draw more than the plug fitted is suposed to carry

and don't get me started about correct earthing.

how many importers test equipment for electrical safety after it lands........how many of these items actually comply????

Me.....I'll test it thanks.

cheers
