I have seen norm use what he calls a deadblow hammer that contains sand or small ballbearings but don't seem to be able to find one in a shop anywhere. Just received the new Carbatec catalogue yesterday but no dead blow hammer.

Anyone know where I can get one in Sydney?

I don't have one myself so I guess I'm not going to be that much use to you :rolleyes: However, I remember a previous post on this topic when the reccommendation was to try an automotive tool supplier.

Actually, I nearly bought one at the WWW show just past. I wonder why I didn't?

Can you remember which stand you nearly bought it from? I've been looking for one of these for ages without success. Maybe there will be one at the Perth WW show next month.

HH - deadblow hammers are available out of Canada from the Lee Valley / Veritas website. My fallback position if the Perth WW show ploy fails is to save some coin for a bigger purchase (maybe a Veritas scraping plane - lustful noises!) and buy a deadblow hammer at the same time.

There are plenty of deadblow hammers (new) for sale on eBay if that's of any use to you. Can't comment on prices as I've never been in the market for one, so haven't taken any notice of the prices in tool stores.

Mick - I've tried a few of the specialists like Blackwoods, Coventrys etc and been met with blank looks. Actually, since my last encounter with an "assistant" at Blackwoods, I've been even more anxious to obtain a deadlow hammer so I can go back and dead-set give the dead-headed assistant a dead-blow on his dead head!

You should find them at most hardware shops ie. Total tools, All Tools, etc.

Even Bunnings may have them.

I've got one, it's great for knocking tight joints together as there's no 'bounce'

It was the guy who has the tent outside between the two pavilions. I think he's a Sikh.

Keep in mind though, that it only looked like a deadblow hammer to me.

Whether it was or not, I dunno. 'Cause I have to be honest and say that I know zip about deadblow hammers.

I just know that if I'm gonna be a true Normite, I need one :D

I use them at work, mine is made by Stanley and is bright orange in colour. I've also seen them at my local power tool joint (Futura machinery). Hope this helps.

Dan's right, I was at Supacheap Auto Springwood QLD last week and they had heaps of them. Cheap and from small to large versions.

Would have bought one meself but saving for 2 Bessey K-Body Clamps so every dollar counts at the moment.
