Which bench belt/disk sander

Hi all

I would like to purchase myself a decent bench belt/disk sander.

I notice that Timbecon has one on special:

Is this a good price/performance unit? Or would anyone recommend something different that costs similarly?

This one is only on special until the 20th at around $200 off rrp.

Looks like a good sized machine with a 12 disc.
I've got one of those Ryobi belt / disc sander ,one of the few Ryobi tools I like and use nearly every day very handy machine .

I reckon you would use the bigger one as often and it looks to be a good deal.
But no experience with this one.

I have a 6"x12" jet machine similar to this. Make sure the trunnions are strong and the adjustment stops are sturdy. Single point dust collection is a big plus. I particularly like the belt adjuster on the Jet unit as it is easy to track and lock.

I haven't seen the unit you have linked but it does look sturdy enough. What I don't understand from the advertisement is why the $300 difference between the DB-1248-SET and the normal DB-1248? From what I can see the SET version just has a few belts extra which are definitely NOT worth $300 ($15-$20ea maximum) or even the $100 if you go by the normal price.

See if you can get a mobile base thrown in for a few more dollars, the standard wheels tend to be too small.

Hafco sells a good 12"Disc sander with a 6" linisher. They have been making the model for years and I have an earlier version that was punished for years in a high scholl. Still works perfectly. Think you find the price is damned good too.

About 20 years ago we bought a Ryobi one - then it was about $220.
Junk. Junk. Junk.
Underpowered, belts kept slipping or breaking, switch stopped working, sander centre broke off the disc part...we exchanged it onbce, and the rest of the problems happened to the other one.
Buying it was oner of the few regrets I've had in the tool buying field.

We later got a multitool (?) a linisher that attaches to an 8" 1 hp bench grinder, and it's been brilliant.

The jet ones shown above look good- wish I'd got one of those instead of the old Ryobi one!
