Hi Wombat,

If you really want one, there's the Triton/GMC (http://www.woodworkforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15) forum that may be of assistance.

I would be wary of it though as the chuck does not self centre - you need to tighten each of the jaws individually which is a real pain in the butt.

If you want a relatively inexpensive chuck that will do an OK job, try this one from Carrolls (http://www.cws.au.com/cgi/index.cgi/shopfront/view_product_details?category_id=1107146818&product_id=1107452006)It's about $150 but it really is vastly superior without being as expensive as the Vicmarcs or Novas (though they are a lot better again). I'm not just saying this because I'm a tool snob (I'm not - most of my tools are cheapies  ), but mainly because the gmc chuck really isn't worth it. Oh, and i think you need the 3/4x16tpi insert (I think... you'll need to verify that).

EDIT: the spindle is ¾“ – 16 UNF (19.05) 1.588mm / 16TPI, from http://www.gmcompany.com/index.cfm?module=products&pid=332
Cheers,
Dave

If you want one badly enough PM me your details, and I'll send you a spare I have. The price is that you have to promise to save up for a good one.

ozkaban it doesnt bother me that the jaws are independent im a fitter machinist so im used to 4 jaw independent chucks
that would be great watson only if its a spare though i do plan on getting a better lathe setup when we move back to vic but it was the easiest way to do a bit of turning to try it out to see if i was realy interested before i spend big money but just my luck i buy from a company that goes out of buisness before i got all the parts why they dont come with the chuck to start with is beyond me
