What should I pay for Formica and Laminex?

New to the forum and seeking advice on what I should pay for Formica and Laminex panels. Have had a couple of quotes but above what I expected.

Is the following considered reasonable?

Laminex Wenge;
16mm HMR P/B 2400x1200, $135.00 plus GST
18mm MR MDF 2400x1200, $180.00 plus GST
25mm std P/B 3600x1800, $400.00 plus GST (14 day wait for the board)

Formica Doe Skin;
16mm MR MDF 2400x1200, $135.00 plus GST
18mm std P/B 3600x1800, $196.00 plus GST
25mm std P/B 3600x1800, $240.00 plus GST

White HMR P/B;
16mm 2400x1200, $40 plus
18mm 2400x1800, $80 plus

Melamine Cutting;
$10.00 per square metre

Edging;
From $2/m to $5/m (applied) if in stock
If not in stock, then it is $2/m applied plus the cost of the roll.

Is laminex panel= melamine laminated MDF?
For melamine laminated board at size 18mm 2400x1200, the FOB price from China is almost 20 USD per piece. :cool:
I was a salesman selling such stuffs before.

I found a fair bit of 'sticker shock' when I was buying a sheet of laminex - not even stuck down to anything (I want to put it on ply, which I have to do myself). All I can suggest is keep ringing around.

I've never bought laminate but the prices you've quoted for HMR is what I paid about 12 months ago. The cutting charge was about half what you quoted. This was from Lifetime Industries in Leichardt.

Check out Builders Bargain Centre in Stanmore too. There were the best priced when I installed a new kitchen a few years back.

I was interested to see in other discussions that My Ply & Wood were helpful and had cheaper prices than most. I found them the least helpful and most expense.

ive used laminex's wenge before and it is really really hard to cut it with out it splintering, make sure you use a really good blade, like the Flai "U" blade, also it takes a while to sand, but other than that it has an AWESOME finish:2tsup:
