Hi All,
attached are some pics of a log I cut up today. The customer calls it Brown Beech or Bolly gum. It has been on the ground for a while hence the black worm lines. Does anyone know the botanical name or a common name that might appear in a reference?
cheers

Bootle gives you at least two possibilities:
Hard Bollygum: Bielschmiedia obtusifolia. A large hardwood of the coastal forest from Clarence river to Cairns. Heartwood yellow-brown, sometimes with a pink tinge. Sapwwod whiteish. ADD 750kg/cubic metre. (aka Blush walnut)
Bollywood: Litsea spp. Medium-sized hardwood, central coast of NSW to Nth Qld. Heartwood usually pale brown but tones of yellow, pink & grey can be present. Texture moderately coarse but even, grain sometimes intelocked. ADD 500kg/cubic metre.
Take your pick - bollygum is considerably denser, if that's any guide.
(Or perhaps neither of the above - common names!).
Cheers,
