Interesting.
I;ve come to the conclusion, however, that unless you are a very experienced sharpener, that freehand grinding is for the birds.
I also believe that there are many grinds that will do as Mr. Michelsen says.
I have decided to get a Jet wet system, mainly because it seems to do as well as the Tormek for a lot less bucks.

when free hand is all you know and all you have ever done for what ever reason its not a such problem .
when i was taught to sharpen tools freehand thats the only way i was shown have never in seen a jig used .

do all mine free hand. But have built a jig for the sake of not messing around and saving a bit of time. I echo your sentiments on the Jet. :U
