Whats the best lumber to keep around for projects

I don't like having to always go to the hardware store, so I'd like to keep a decent supply of lumber around for projects. What are the most commonly used dimensions/lumber types etc that would be good to buy a supply to keep around for general use?

4 by one, 6 by one, 2 by one and 4 by2 and 3 by 2 should cover a fair bit possibly some wider boards in the 19 mm dressed or 1 inch sawn category. and maybe a few sheets of ply
