Got a very nice pair of bird-watching binoculars. (Not related to WW except in one respect ....:rolleyes: )

Also shouted myself some Incra rules - they work sooo well - a DeWalt router and a 12" SCMS.

I got a sony walkman - only relative to woodwork as I'll plug into the amp in the shed and annoy the neighbours with some quality music - They need to listen to some more Led Zep!:D

Mine are Leupold 10x42. Good to have a large aperture since much of the watching you do is in low light at dawn and dusk.

If the hones won't sharpen the carbide well enought to cut the blackwood I can drown my sorrows with the rum.

I too became a grandfather, (for the sixth time) when our grandson
was born two days before Christmas day.
He will be the first to carry on the family surname.:2tsup:

I also got a bbq with a range of utensils from my kids and I

I can't beat Hickory's Chrissy present (New Grandaughter) nor Alans (new Grandson) You can imagine my surprise though when LOML told me on Christmas morning that she had gotten me a new Porsche 911. WOW was I excited. I was about to run out to the garage in my pjs when she gave me a box all nicely wrapped. I was so excited, over the moon, Surely, this was the remote key so I could open the car. I had visions of the neighbours oogling at me as I drove past their house and accidentally pressing the horn just in case they didn't notice me.

I quickly ripped open the wrapping of the "key" and opend the box... and there it was..:( a new wireless mouse for my computer. :((
Oh well at least it is red so guess it will be faster. :)

Didn't get any woodworking tools but did get a $30 Bunnings gift card from my son.
Other stuff was just just clothes. All in all it was a good Christmas.

Congrats to the new (again) grandads!

Xmas was very enjoyable this year, yet again, with lots of family around without a hint of disharmony. What more could I want.

As for presents, despite strict standing instructions for none, the LOML and I got a voucher for a weekend away at an eco-retreat (my kind of thing) from No 1 son, and the latest issue of Wood Review from No 2 son, and two bananas and an avocado beautifully 'wrapped' from my three year old grandson, his own idea. I think the weekend away is more of a thank you for looking after that grandson two days a week (which is a delight anyway) than just Xmas.

As for gifts given, my two sons each got some specy hand-forged Japanese kitchen knives, details here (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f111/japanese-knives-109164/index3.html#post1086815) if interested. And, the LOML and I have a proposal to buy a mini notebook computer so there are two computers in the house to overcome the inconvenience when someone is looking at woodworking forums and the like (can't imagine who) and the other would like to do emails and look up other stuff.... :U. Just waiting until the genuine post-Xmas sales come on.

I'm fortunate enough to not have to wait until Xmas to buy the woodworking tools I need, I just buy them from the proceeds of my woodturning as I need them. Never more than the accumulated funds, but then it doesn't get much of a chance to accumulate ...:D... unless a new lathe, bandsaw or chainsaw is required.

As someone actually born on Christmas day I feel sorry for those poor kids born at this time of the year.

I know what it's like never to have had a birthday where my day was actually recognised because of me. Normally it's Merry Christmas and oh yea btw happy birthday. And the week leading up to a major holiday is nearly as bad as most don't have the time to celebrate birthdays.

As I'm now old and grumpy :D I really feel sorry for those little kids and I reckon March should be a compulsory abstinence month.
