Making a jewelry box for my daughter, and this is the piece for the top. Quite pleased with the result. :)

Beautiful! Like wheelin' I'm wondering about pyrography or hot sand.

Thanks for the complements guys. This is the first time I have tried using shading, and it's quite a buzz to see it come alive. I took a piece of veneer, and scorched it in random patterns with a blowtorch. Then I could just select suitable parts through the window. It wasn't possible to use this tecnique on one piece, and I used sand shading for that. I'm expecting to lose some of the shading when I sand, and will use a soldering iron to bring back any lost detail before putting the finish on.

As far as what the veneers are, I'm sorry but I don't have a clue.

Great job, from the picture the back ground appears to be Madrona Burl, bit to hard to identify the rest but beautiful whatever they are .

Cheers
