Don't know where to really post this. Just figured i post in the turning section more than anywhere else. The thing is I'd love to live and work in Australia, get to play a lot more with those amazing burls you guys have. I am a cabinet maker by trade and I just wanted to know would there be positions available to work in this trade. I figured with this global economic crisis work would be hard to come by no matter where you go.

Depends on where in Oz you want to be. Out here where there's a lot of mining still going we haven't noticed the downturn at all  - you'd have to hide under a log to avoid work in this part of the world - but there's not a lot of fine cabinetry in a coal mine and the heat would probably kill you first wet season :U Would love to swap places for a while though - hope to holiday over on your little island for a while in the near future (wink, wink, nudge, nudge :U)

Keith,

Dunno about now but it used to be 42 the cut off date for migration to Oz. So maybe you should kick off your paper work. Once lodged its ok, no matter how long they take to get it done.

Lately theres been a bit of a relaxing of the quota, due to lack of trades people. So now is probably a very good time to get your application in.Trades are in short supply along with nurses [wife] and a few others

Just a tip keith, The proof of a needed trade and the willingness to go somewhere a bit isolated for a while will help your cause.
