Good initiative!

I will make a template from a Nooitgedagt handle, very similar to the Berg handles.

I will post them as soon as possible.

Ah, how to draw the London pattern.

Not that I've made one; it would be a nice challenge.

Here's one I found somewhere on the web and saved. I have plans to replace the handles on my mismatched firmer chisels one day.
One day...

Cool. It's a handsome handle IMO.

Wish I could afford the boxwood it was commonly made from.

I've scanned my rough working templates of three sizes of london pattern octagonal handles as a pdf. There aren't any length measurements as I take that directly off the drawings and it isn't critical anyway. The measurements given are of course diameters.

Jim

I got some European box from Turkey but it is a bit on the expensive side.
Victorian yellow box looks pretty good in octagonal handles (most woods do) but if you want the box look cheaply try using African boxthorn. It's a noxious weed so you'd be doing the environment a favour. I've dried it in the microwave but it does stink the house out. Don't know how much belting it would take with a mallet.

Or use another weed - cotoneaster. It is tough like box

jimbur

How big does cotoneaster get. I've only seen small stuff.
Hawthorn is pretty tough too.

Forgot about that; good call.

Stu was selling repro handles out of it a while ago IIRC.

Thanks Andrew and Sapling.
Good idea the photo on graph paper Rssr. I usually photograph, paste the photo into something like Word and fit it into a table with .5mm squares. Very clunky.

Jim

Towards the end there are drawings of many different handles.

Copywrite, what's that ment to be in a digital age?

I hope alf will be too Ern, if not it can easily be removed, but in the time being we can all look at the london pattern handles and plan our next adventure.

I wasn't sweating on copyright Steve, and at a guess Alf wouldn't either. IIRC she drew her pattern from an existing handle.

Anyway it's a bit higher in the 'dome' than others that I've seen/used.

They are from Dad's collection but the crazy thing is that I have not found the matching socket chisels. He may have picked them up at a clearing sale.

I wonder if any enterprising individual has started making replica Titan decals yet?
