I have just completed the frame of a skin-on-frame kayak. I have built it from Chris Cunningham's book called Building the Greenland Kayak (2003).

Can anyone direct me to a supplier in the Sydney region who can supply me with 12-15 ounce (about 255 to 340 grams) per square yard? (Pardon the mixed measurements, but Cunningham uses Imperial measurements).

I have noted two other posts in this section on similar topics, but they do not directly relate to my needs.

Regards.

I'd be interested to see if someone comes up with an Australian supplier. I've now built two SOF boats with balistic nylon and got my material from Corey Freedman at skin boats - www.skinboats.org (http://www.skinboats.org) in America.

SkyShop - Australia's Online Pilot Supplies Shop for all your Aviation supplies and flight equipment for pilots, students and aviation enthusiasts. (http://www.skyshop.com.au/) in Brisbane might be worth a call.

Thank you Peter, for those two suggestions. I will follow up both of them.

No worries Norm, If you get onto the Skinboats site and decide to go that way then talk to me about the two weights they have - I've seen both.

I did not order from the Qld mob as I thought it was rather expensive. George Dyson was excellent to deal with, as I expect Corey would be.

If you haven't found this site (http://www.qajaqusa.org/) yet, it is worth a look. Tom Yost (http://www.yostwerks.com/WoodSOFMain.html) has some great ideas.

Let me know if you have any questions, I may be able to help. I'm on my 6th SOF Kayak, I've leant a lot, but still learning.

I am researching the idea of building a SOF Kayak and endeavouring to source materials, particularly in S E Queensland . Before commencing I would like to physically view a SOF on the water. Can you suggest how I may proceed with these objectives.

Dear Kirk

Sorry, I can't help you with that. I haven't seen a skin-on-frame for years. Perhaps you could start a new thread asking people in your area to get in touch. There must be quite a few skin-on-frame boats around. One of the people who contributed to this thread said that he had built 6 of them.

Yours

Norm
