I have cypres pine floorboards (about 60 yrs old), they are in need of sanding and coating. I heard that tung oil is a good natural alternative to 'estapol' and polyurethane products. Also that a sacrificial wax coating can be put on top of the tung oil when coating is dry.. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.. thanks sk

Simon, have a look here;

One of the posts by "AussieGlen" has a link which pretty much tells you all you need to know. A search in the forums for Tung Oil will reveal heaps of very good information.

Cheers

Not that my floorboards are cyprus, but we did some rooms in tung oil and wax, and some in tung oil only. And in the end preferred the oil only look. My 2 cents.

Just had my boards finished with a brand new German made natural wax/oil combination called Treatex. Check out the importers website http://www.whittlewaxes.com.au.

It passes the hot wet coffee cup without leaving blemishes and can be refinnished similarly to tung oil.
