Ozkaban 12th February 2010, 03:44 PM Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!
I've only just got reading glasses in the last month or so and this is doing my head in!
Cool optical illusion. Nicely done :2tsup:
Cheers,
Dave
Afro Boy 12th February 2010, 03:51 PM lol. I still haven't figured out how he did it.
tea lady 12th February 2010, 04:45 PM :hmm: Weird. Could nearly be just a shadow line. But my eyes hurt now so I can't look at it anymore.:C:D
KorDes 12th February 2010, 10:32 PM Its clearly been photoshopped. You can tell from the grain on the endgrain of the bottom piece doesnt match the face grain.
Eldanos of KDM 12th February 2010, 11:18 PM Its clearly been photoshopped. You can tell from the grain on the endgrain of the bottom piece doesnt match the face grain.
Avaitors is right. Very right.
The piece of timber seems to have grain going up higher than the piece itself. It's a photoshop job..
Afro Boy 12th February 2010, 11:50 PM Apparently not photoshopped.
I think I've figured it out and might try to make it myself over the weekend.
Afro Boy 14th February 2010, 12:55 PM I didn't get to making it but I did play around with sketch-up and here is what I figured out. It's all a matter of viewing angle.
joe greiner 14th February 2010, 11:14 PM I think you got it close to right. The grain in the upper "piece" doesn't agree end vs. side either, and the screws are red herrings. The dark lines at the boundary indicate a joint or shadow line.
Congratulations and Cheers,
Joe
conwood 17th February 2010, 06:25 PM more info pls Afro..I must make one. (Which reminds me, I must post my impossible E)
cheers

Afro Boy 17th February 2010, 06:34 PM Never actually built one myself, but I think it's an illusion that will only work through a photograph.
I've attached the Google Sketchup file I threw together.
Cheers,
Af.
